The current government led by the social-democratic Smer party will not restrict people's access to health care, PM Robert Fico told media on April 22.

"We will do our best to be sure that everyone, regardless of whether his or her monthly income is Sk7,000 or Sk150,000, has access to free health care, which will, of course, be strictly defined," Fico said.

Fico also said that if it was up to him, he would have a single health insurance company but he has to respect agreements and the opinions of his coalition partners.

He added that the government's highest priority is preventing health insurers from making a profit and that it will pursue this goal relentlessly.
