PM Fico says changes in coalition agreement won't happen

The Prime Minister and chairman of Smer, Robert Fico, said the issue of compensation to the Slovak National Party (SNS) for the withdrawal of their right to nominate the minister for the Environment Ministry or a change in the governing coalition agreement is a closed matter, the TASR newswire reported after a session of Smer’s presidium.

"Smer-SD won't agree with any proposals for a change of the coalition agreement, neither with any replacement or compensation," said Fico concerning SNS's chances at a meeting of the coalition schedule for Tuesday, September 8.

When it comes to the general election in 2010, Fico said that his party doesn't exclude co-operation with any political party that breaks the 5 percent threshold and makes it to Parliament. "We only have two concepts of what a new government should look like - protection of Slovak national interests and a strong social state - these are two conditions with which we will start negotiations, and when we find partners, we'll make an agreement," specified Fico.
