According to Prime Minister Robert Fico, there is no coalition crisis, despite tensions between his two partners, the far-right Slovak National Party (SNS) and Hlas. He asserts that parliament has been functioning smoothly, even without a properly elected Speaker.
“I really don’t understand why a false picture is being created that things aren’t working,” Fico recently remarked in an interview with the disinformation outlet Štandard.
However, Tuesday’s parliamentary session told a different story.
A trio of MPs from the far-right National Coalition—Rudolf Huliak, Pavel Ľupták, and Ivan Ševčík—disrupted proceedings by failing to vote at 11:20, 11:40, 14:05, 17:05, 17:25, and 17:31. Only 75 coalition MPs were present ahead of the announced votes, whereas a minimum of 76 was required.
