Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda met with four independent MPs several days ago to discuss laws that will be on the parliamentary agenda in March, participants of the meeting confirmed.
The Slovak daily Pravda wrote that former Communist party member Herman Arvay, former Movement for a Democratic Slovakia MPs Miroslav Abelovský and Ladislav Polka, and a former member of the ruling coalition's New Citizen's Alliance, Robert Nemcsics, were at the meeting.
Dzurinda was not available to comment on the meeting, but Polka denied that the officials discussed long-term support for the minority Dzurinda cabinet.
Pravda wrote, however, that the meeting was intended to secure permanent support for the ruling coalition after the PM failed to agree with his ex-party peers, who formed the Free Forum party (SF).
Coalition partners insisted that agreement with Ivan Šimko's SF would be a better solution to the cabinet problems.
