SLOVAK Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda does not consider it worth commenting on suspicions that MPs were bought.
The issue reached a head after former Economy Minister and leader of the New Citizen’s Alliance party, Pavol Rusko, published a secretly recorded videotape in which it appears that his former party colleague Iveta Henzélyová, now an independent MP, claims she was approached by someone offering various favours, including money, for giving her support to the ruling coalition.
Investigators are now inspecting the tape to establish its authenticity, the Pravda daily reported.
According to Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič, the matter of the recording is so serious that if it is proved to be authentic “our parliament does not even have a moral right to continue in its work”.
Dzurinda insists that he will not be “drawn in into these waters”.
According to the PM there is no reason for the senior ruling body, the Coalition Board, to consider the issue either.
“It is highly undignified, inappropriate, even absurd,” Dzurinda said.
