“Taking into regard numerous controversial nominations in the transport sector in the era of the previous minister, the ministry's plan is to select the best possible experts in the given field based on objective criteria in the newly announced tender," Transport Ministry spokesman Martin Kóňa said, as reported by the Sme daily on Thursday, August 9.

Počiatek decided on the dismissals on August 2. Chairman of the board Jozef Beliš, vice-chair Peter Klinka, and members Peter Guttman and Andrea Vítkóová were sacked, the SITA newswire wrote. Darina Fabulová, the elected representative of the company’s employees, remains the board’s only surviving member. The transport minister is responsible for hiring and firing the other four members.

ŽSR spokesperson Martina Pavliková said, as reported by SITA: “The current state of affairs, when four members of the board of directors were recalled, has had no crucial impact on the operation of ŽSR.” The board of directors usually meets once a month and the new members are expected to have been appointed by the time of its next meeting.
