MP Martin Poliačik from Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) has filed a complaint against Parliamentary Speaker Pavol Paška for the latter's statements on the MP's drug history. He thereby intends to respond to Paška's comments, in which the parliamentary chairman identified Poliačik as "a tireless promoter of heroin", the TASR newswire quoted him on Wednesday, May 29.
"Mr. Paška twisted my words and was intentionally trying to depict me as a person glorifying, and even promoting drug use. I have sworn a number of times that these were lies," said Poliačik, adding that Paška discredits himself with these statements and all future political statements. Poliačik became a target of criticism from Paška and Prime Minister Robert Fico after he provided an interview for the Sme daily in August 2012 in which he confessed to experimenting with illegal drugs in the past. Moreover, the MP caused a stir in parliament last week during a debate on an amendment to the Criminal Code when, while delivering a speech, he held up what he claimed to be hashish. In doing so, Poliačik sought to demonstrate how a very small amount can land a person in prison, despite the fact that they are not engaged in drug dealing. The MP later revealed that his prop was nothing more than a piece of chocolate.
