Five men who assaulted Ján Dobrovič, the deputy general director of Slovakia’s Tax Directorate, in November 2009 were paid €2,000 for carrying out the attack and the motive was most probably due to Dobrovič’s government position, the SITA newswire reported.
“It was a contract attack,” Peter Šufliarsky of the General Prosecutor’s Office told SITA, adding that one of the organizers of the attack is among those to be prosecuted while stating that the number to be accused might not be definite yet.
The prosecutor’s office said specialised police units and the prosecutor’s office managed to finish their investigation after 15 months with the help of a key witness.
“At least five people are believed to have participated in this offense – four civilians and one professional soldier,” said Šufliarsky. According to the information in the media, this could have been professional soldier Bohuslav P., arrested a few days ago by the police special forces. Altogether, three persons were arrested.
Dobrovič was assaulted on November 7, 2009 near his house in Veľký Šariš by two individuals armed with iron rods, causing severe injuries. The accused could be sentenced to five to twelve years in prison.
