An incident involving more than a dozen aggressive pupils in special classes at a primary school in Prešov on Wednesday, March 23, led to three police patrol units being called, the TASR reported.
According to teachers, the pupils verbally abused them and began damaging school property. One female teacher, who declined to supply her name, said that she had noticed the smell of smoke in the toilets in the morning. Then a radio went missing from a classroom. When it was later found in a bush near the school, the teachers decided to call the police, but the pupils then became even more aggressive.
"They began throwing chairs, swearing ... They surrounded me and my colleague," said the female teacher, adding that the incident involved more than a dozen Roma pupils from special classes, aged between 7 and 14. "There have been several cases of rowdiness in the past, but I haven't experienced anything like this in 31 years of teaching. No wonder I'm afraid," said the teacher. Several pupils were taken to the local police station. The management of the school has declined to comment on the incident.
