While searching for a man suspected of murdering a couple in a boarding house in Zuberec in the Orava region, police chased a car on the D2 highway heading towards the Czech Republic.
The chase started on Monday, June 24 at around 17:00. Police tried to stop the Volkswagen Passat, which was listed as belonging to the murder suspect. After the driver first pulled the car over to the side of the road, he then shot off in an attempt to escape the police. Officers started shooting, first in the air and then at the car, in which there were four people, the Sme daily wrote. Only then did the driver stop the car and the people got out of it. They said that they were not charged with anything for three hours before being taken to a police station. Police bullets struck the car’s doors and the bumper.
However, the suspect Milan Ďuriš (36), an ex-boyfriend of a woman killed on Sunday, sold the Volkswagen Passat several years ago, and he now owns a Toyota Land Cruiser. The Passat has changed owners several times since. The driver caught on Monday had his driver’s license suspended for attempting to flee the police. He plans to file a complaint over the damage his car sustained in the shooting, and is considering filing a criminal complaint.
A man (aged 38) and a woman (aged 52) from Bratislava were found shot to death, and Ďurišin (aged 36), who is believed to be armed, is suspected of killing them.
