UNHCR will continue to deal with this topic with the immigration police “exclusively in a bilateral way”, Police Corps spokesperson Denisa Baloghová said, as quoted by the SITA newswire. She however failed to say more as the UNHCR employees and people from the Centre of Legal Aid at the Justice Ministry are still holding talks regarding the issue.
HRL head Zuzana Števulová responded by saying that their relation with UNHCR is defined in a bilateral agreement which was signed after winning the bid.
“I do not understand why a third party should interfere in and influence this process, particularly if the third party is a body whose facilities we should check,” Števulová said, as quoted by SITA.
The request to change the regional representation of UNHCR for central Europe which is situated in Budapest was originally mentioned in the report approved by the government on October 21. It stated that it was the Interior Ministry which asked for the exchange, though ministry spokesperson Ivan Netík later said that the request was made by the Border and Aliens Police. The final text however lacks the request to change HRL, SITA wrote.
