A Slovak lawyer allegedly was arranging fraudulent marriages to help Chinese citizens acquire permanent residence and immigration rights in Slovakia and an investigator for the National Unit to Combat Illegal Migration charged him along with seven people who allegedly participated in sham marriages between 2006 and 2010, the SITA newswire wrote.
Four women and three men are facing charges of committing the crime of immigration fraud and could be sentenced to two to eight years in prison. The alleged organiser of these marriages married a Chinese woman himself, allegedly for Sk30,000 (€996).
The Sme daily also wrote on March 20 that the lawyer had made his daughter marry a Chinese man.
