Police President Ján Packa and his deputies Stanislav Jankovič and Michal Kopčík are leaving their posts, new Interior Minister Daniel Lipšic (KDH) announced, as reported by TASR.
“All three have expressed interest in leaving, the date of (Packa's) departure is, I think, as early as July 17,” said the new minister, adding that he will attempt to resolve personnel issues quickly, “so that there's no chaos in the Police Corps”.
Lipšic indicated that he has some candidates in mind but declined to name them. “It wouldn't be fair,” he told TASR.
The new minister announced that his top priority in the post will be the fight against corruption and organised crime, just as it was when he headed the Justice Ministry between 2002-06, “... [as] apart from other things, people in Slovakia are troubled most by the perception that law-abiding people don't have the upper hand, and that it is Mafiosi, corrupt politicians and villains that have it,” he stated.
