Police fished out bootleg cigarettes from Tisa river

THE BORDER police in Sobrance, Košice Region, fished out a package from the Tisa River containing 60 cartons of cigarettes. The river flows along part of the Slovak-Hungarian border in southeast Slovakia.

Spokesperson Agneša Kopernická informed the TASR newswire that the package, discovered on July 18, was wrapped in black plastic and contained FEST brand cigarettes in consumer packaging, without Slovakia’s customs markings.

“The overall loss [in unpaid duties] was estimated by the Customs Office in Michalovce at €1,674.43,” she concluded.
