THE POLICE now claim to know the name of the person who killed prominent lawyer Ernest Valko in 2010, as Deputy Prosecutor General Peter Šufliarsky told the Hospodárske Noviny daily. He said that the investigators are currently searching for evidence so that they can file charges, the daily reported in its November 13 issue.
The police also say they know the perpetrator’s motive. Šufliarsky told the Hospodárske Noviny that the murder was not an accident committed during a burglary, but did not provide further details.
The police declined to comment on the information, saying that the investigation is still underway.
Valko was found shot dead in his house in Limbach, near Bratislava, on November 8, 2010, by his ex-wife and daughter. Valko served as deputy speaker of the lower house of the Czechoslovak Federal Parliament in 1990-1991, and in 1992 was chosen as the top official of the Czechoslovak Constitutional Court, and his death was a shock to Slovak society. The circumstances surrounding his murder remain unclear.
Since the beginning investigators have worked with several versions of events and potential motives, from robbery to an assisination related to Valko’s work, TASR wrote. The police have already conducted 94 interviews with witnesses, and have visited the crime scene repeatedly, as reported by the TASR newswire. In addition, the police have verified the testimony of the main witness, taken samples for DNA analysis and made 43 forensic substantiations.
