The police corps fraud squad has denied claims by former prime minister Vladimír Mečiar that he was questioned in connection with an alleged Sk41 million ($860,000) he spent on repairs to his Elektra villa in 1999.
“Mečiar was never even called upon by officers of the fraud division to explain matters in this case,” said top fraud officer Július Molnár.
Milan Polák, the head of the fraud police in Trenčín district, which has jurisdiction over the Elektra case, resigned on May 20, apparently in relation to the failure of the police to follow up indications Mečiar had spent many times his legal income on the villa.
