The 5000-7000 people attending the anti-corruption march that called for police chief Tibor Gašpar to resign did not persuade him to do so.
Organisers of the anti-corruption march taking place April 18 presented a memorandum to the government office demanding the investigation of corruption scandals like Bašternák or Gorilla, and also the dismissal of Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák (Smer), special prosecutor Dušan Kováčik and police corps president Tibor Gašpar from their posts.
Gašpar responded by saying that he does not feel the need to resign for any professional failure.
“My role as police president is to ensure the fight against corruption from the material and personnel points of view, to provide police training and a certain strategy,” Gašpar told the press, adding that he isn't personally responsible for investigating corruption offences.
The police chief went on to say that if Interior Minister Kaliňák decides to dismiss him for political reasons, he will respect the decision.
