Police running scared from Palko

Since Interior Minister Vladimír Palko, a hard line anti-communist, arrived in his post last month, 372 police officers have resigned and left the force, apparently fearing they will not pass security checks for former employees of the ŠtB communist secret service.

The checks, which are being carried out by the National Security Office (NBÚ), can bar officers from handling classified information without giving a concrete reason.
