A criminal prosecution has been launched against an unknown offender for subsidy fraud, in relation to the troubled Privilégium non-profit social-services provider.
A spokesman for the County Prosecution Office Bratislava confirmed the prosecution in a September 14 article in the Hospodárske Noviny economic daily.
This happened on the same day the organisation pledged to return its Sk2 million subsidy to the Labour Ministry. Labour Minister Viera Tomanová worked for Privilégium before she took up her current post.
If the investigation confirms that the managers of the organisation lied in their application for the subsidies, they could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
