POLICE started prosecution procedures in the alleged hidden privatization of Slovak Airlines (SA) by Austrian Airlines (AUA), based on a motion filed by MP Branislav Opaterný of the Free Forum party, the daily SME reported.

AUA gained an almost 62-percent stake in SA with the agreement of Transport Minister Pavol Prokopovič after the Austrians guaranteed an Sk200 million (€5.3 million) loan that SA took to avoid bankruptcy.

In January last year AUA then increased SA's assets by Sk114.6 million (€3 million). For this sum they gained a controlling majority in SA. According to Opaterný, by enabling this, Prokopovič has damaged the state.

"They sold state property without a proper cabinet or parliamentary decision," says Opaterný.
