Members of the LOZ, the trade union representing hospital doctors, will not be prosecuted for the industrial action they took at the end of last year that resulted in a state of emergency being declared by the government in some hospitals, the TASR newswire reported on Thursday, February 16. The Bratislava V District Police Corps approved a resolution dismissing more than 20 complaints filed against the LOZ and its members.
Most of the complaints accused LOZ of violence against the public and the state constitution, blackmailing the state, bullying and endangering the public, and fear-mongering. According to the criminal complaints, the protesting doctors committed a crime when they threatened the government with quitting their jobs if their demands were not met. In addition, late last year LOZ called on doctors not to come to work even if a state of emergency was declared.
