Milan Juhász, a former police officer who killed three Roma and seriously injured another two in Hurbanovo in mid June, could not tell how dangerous his behaviour was and could not control his actions, according to an expert assessment of the man's mental condition, the Sme daily reported.
The experts who were consulted for the assessment now propose that Juhász be sent to a hospital to avoid “a repetition of the affected conditional behaviour”. If police and prosecutors accept the assessment, the investigation into the killings will have to be halted and Juhász will avoid the 25-year prison sentence he would expect to face if convicted of the killings in a criminal trial.
Tibor Gašpar, president of the Police Corps, hinted that the police have not accepted the findings, commenting, as quoted by Sme: “We consider the opinion unclear.” The police will now hear the experts in more detail, and may ask for another opinion, the daily wrote.
