IF A GENERAL election had taken place in mid October, the ruling Smer would have won with 37.3 percent of the votes. The second Sieť would have gathered 12.4 percent, the SITA newswire reported on October 27.
The poll was conducted by Polis polling agency between October 14 and 19 on a sample of 1,412 respondents older than 18, the SITA newswire wrote. A total of 21 percent of those polled would not go to the ballot-boxes, while 24 were undecided or refused to answer.
Sieť would be followed by Most-Híd with 9 percent, Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) with 7.9 percent, Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) with 6.9 percent and Party of the Hungarian Community (SMK) with 5.8 percent.
Other parties did not reach the 5-percent threshold required for seats in parliament. The Slovak National Party (SNS) received 4.2 percent, Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) 4 percent, Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) 3.1 percent, NOVA 2.8 percent, Communist Party of Slovakia (KSS) 1.8 percent and People’s Party Our Slovakia (ĽSNS) 1.4 percent.
