A dead body of a 38-year-old Polish tourist, who likely was struck by lightning, has been found near the municipality of Terchová in the Malá Fatra mountains, Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) reported on its website on July 24.
Mountain rescue team immediately requested the Interior Ministry’s squadron to take them to the site on board a helicopter, the TASR newswire quoted the website.
“After landing in Snilovské Sedlo saddleback, rescuers found the body near the tourist trail,” the mountain rescue team said. “The corpse was transported by helicopter to the HZS centre in Terchová where it was handed over to a doctor and the police. Considering the recent series of storms in Vrátna Dolina in the Malá Fatra mountains on Monday, the Polish tourist was most likely struck by lightning. The exact cause and time of death, however, will be determined by an autopsy.”
