A Polish tourist fell from the peak Východná Vysoká in High Tatras on October 7 and died. The mountain Rescue Service informed the TASR newswire that in the morning, a Polish tourist saw a woman falling from this peak which is 2,428 meters tall towards the Veľká Studená valley.
The rescuers thus asked airborne rescuers for cooperation who landed at the heliport in Starý Smokovec and took two mountain rescuers onboard. However, they could not get to the valley due to strong wind and clouds, and thus returned and continued on foot.
In the meantime, the Polish man who reported the tragedy managed to get to the site where the Polish woman from Gdansk, aged 28, was lying after a fall of 300 metres. Her injuries were fatal, the rescue service found. She is the seventh person to die in the Slovak part of High Tatras this year.
