AMONG foreign transport companies using Slovak roads in 2013, Polish carriers paid the most in tolls, followed by freight companies from the Czech Republic and Hungary, according to the most recent data from SkyToll, the TASR newswire reported.
In total, carriers from abroad paid 43.3 percent of the tolls collected last year, 17.4 percent of which was paid by carriers from Poland, 8.5 percent by companies from the Czech Republic and 5.1 percent by Hungarian firms. The total revenue from tolls in 2013 reached €159 million.
In terms of the weight of vehicles, the biggest share of the tolls collected in 2013 concerned vehicles of over 12 tonnes with two axles, earning the state over €119 million. "This is 75.1 percent of the annual toll collection," SkyToll spokesman Anton Bodis told TASR.
In terms of emission classes, the largest share of tolls for 2013 were paid by vehicles of EURO IV+ class, with a total of €84.71 million, which represents 53.3 percent of the collected tolls. The figure for the previous year was just 44.8 percent.
