A poll published June 27 by the Public Opinion Research Department (UVVM) at the Slovak Statistics Office suggested that support for Slovakia's entry to the European Union is more than twice as high as its opposition. Of the 1,064 respondents, 62% were in favour of EU entry, 26% were opposed and 12% were undecided.
Support for entry was highest among university graduates (79%), ethnic Hungarians (70%), and inhabitants of cities with a population over 100,000 (68%). Support was lowest among unskilled workers (56%), citizens over 60 years of age (49%), and people who have received only basic schooling (44%).
