More than three in four Slovaks claim that they are satisfied with their current job, with good colleagues and fulfilling work seen as more important than financial evaluation, according to a poll carried out for the Prima banka by 2muse agency on a sample of 700 respondents aged 18-65. As many as 58 percent of Slovaks, and especially older age groups, find it important to work in the field in which they studied.
"This result shows that the requirements of employers and the range offered by Slovak universities aren't in accord. Young people are often educated in subjects that employers can't use, and then they have to spend extra money on additional education," said Marek Tomeš, Prima banka's poll expert as quoted by the TASR newswire. He added that there are many jobs with no matching education available at universities.
Good colleagues were cited as being the most important factor for 95 percent of the respondents, while 94 percent saw the work assigned to the given post as the highest priority. Financial considerations were in third place, with 89 percent of people highlighting them as important. Also among the top five preferences were the location of the job, which should be in the region in which the employee lives, and the possibility of career growth. When it comes to the most appreciated perks, contributions towards pensions, commuting, mortgages and holidays were mentioned by 44 percent, followed by above standard health care (15 percent), a company car (14 percent), and education and training (12 percent).
