Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda is the most trusted politician in the country, according to an opinion poll published by the independent IVO agency on February 19.
In the poll, conducted by IVO in January among 1,806 respondents, 26.4% saw Dzurinda as the most trustworthy politician in Slovakia. In the last such IVO poll, conducted in March 1998, only 14.6% trusted Dzurinda.
Dzurinda became Prime Minister after general elections in September 1998, in which former Prime Minister Vladimír Mečiar was heavily defeated by an opposition coalition.
Confidence in Mečiar, who has only rarely appeared in public since the elections, fell according the poll to 16.0%, from 19.8% last March.
