BOTH parliamentary opposition parties, Smer and the Slovak National Party (SNS), experienced small drops in voter support in the most recent poll conducted by Median SK that was released on April 18.
Smer would still have taken top spot if an election had been held in March 2011, polling 43.2 percent support, a decline of just over one percentage point from last month’s poll. The SNS had the support of 5.9 percent of those polled compared to 6.5 percent in February.
Most-Híd was the only party of the quartet in the ruling coalition to lose support in the March poll compared to February as it was backed by only 5.1 percent of those who responded, just above the 5-percent threshold needed to enter parliament and down 1.4 percentage points from February.
The Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) gained nearly 3 percentage points over the poll taken in February and garnered 17.1-percent support in March. The Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) saw its polling numbers increase slightly from February’s 9.2 percent to 10.1 percent in March. The Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party also polled slightly better, at 9.9 percent in March compared to 9.1 percent in February.
