A survey released recently by the Public Opinion Research Institute (ÚVVM) showed that 54 percent of respondents would agree with the shortening of the four-year term of the current parliament, a move that would result in new national elections, the Slovak daily Pravda wrote on February 21.

In response to political disputes over whether the result of the referendum would be binding for MPs, 71 percent of the respondents thought MPs should respect the outcome of the popular vote.
