The Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) would not make it into parliament, according to the most recent poll by the MVK polling agency. In October, the party, led by Pavol Frešo, received only 4.8 percent of respondents’ preferences, the SITA newswire reported, citing the poll.
MVK surveyed 1,133 people between October 5 and 11. Smer emerged as the clear frontrunner, with 40 percent of votes, equivalent to 79 seats in parliament. Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) placed second, with 9.1 percent (18 seats). In third place was the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), with 8.4 (16 seats), followed by Most-Híd in fourth place, with 7.3 percent (14 seats).
New Majority, the new party being launched by former KDH MP Daniel Lipšic, recorded the same level of support as Freedom and Solidarity (SaS): 5.8 percent (12 seats). As well as the SDKÚ, the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK; 4.5 percent), the Slovak National Party (SNS; 4.2 percent), People’s Party – Our Slovakia (1:9 percent), 99 Percent – Civic Voice (1.2 percent) and Change from Below (0.3 percent) would also fail to win seats by falling below the 5-percent threshold. Other political parties would get 5.3 percent combined. Altogether, 10.3 percent of respondents said they would not vote, and another 18 percent did not know whether they would turn out or who they would vote for.
