Poll shows Fico facing Procházka in run-off

IF PRESIDENTIAL elections had taken place between January 15-21, Prime Minister Robert Fico would have advanced to the second round with 40.1 percent, along with independent candidate Radoslav Procházka with 13.6 percent, according to the results of an MVK poll that were released on January 27.

Another independent candidate, Andrej Kiska, was close behind Procházka with 13.2 percent.

Kiska was followed by Pavol Hrušovský (KDH) - 9.0 percent; actor and former politician Milan Kňažko (independent) - 8.9 percent; Gyula Bárdos (SMK) - 6.6 percent; Ján Čarnogurskź (ex-KDH, now independent) - 3.1 percent; Helena Mezenská (Ordinary People and Indepdent Personalities, running as independent) - 1.5 percent; Peter Osuský (SaS) - 1.3 percent; heart surgeon Viliam Fischer (independent) - 1.0 percent; Jozef Behýl (independent) - 0.5 percent; Rimavská Sobota Mayor (Banská Bystrica Region) Jozef Šimko (Party of Modern Slovakia/SMS), retired scientist Milan Melnik (independent) and Ján Jurašta (Communists) - all three 0.3 percent; and Stanislav Martinčko (independent) - 0.2 percent.
