Two current opposition parties would not receive enough votes to pass the 5-percent threshold necessary for winning parliamentary seats if the general elections took place at the beginning of July. While the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) would receive only 4.7 percent of the vote, Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) would gain only 3.9 percent. On the other hand, non-parliamentary Party of Hungarian Community (SMK) would win the support of 5.1 percent of voters, according to the poll carried out by the MVK agency among 1,077 respondents.
The ruling Smer party would win the elections, with 44.3 percent of the vote; the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) would place second, with 9 percent; followed by the New Majority – Agreement and Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO), both of which would receive 7.5 percent of the vote, the SITA newswire reported on July 12.
Most-Híd would also make it into parliament with 7 percent of the vote.
The ruling Smer would fill 82 parliamentary seats, KDH would garner 17 seats and New Majority – Agreement and OĽaNO would both win 14 seats. Most-Híd would be represented by 13 MPs and SMK 10 deputies, SITA wrote.
