OPPOSITION parties Smer and the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), the ruling coalition parties the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK), and Christian-Democratic Movement (KDH), and the non-parliamentary Movement for Democracy (HZD) and People's Union (LÚ) parties would all get into the European Parliament, the Public Opinion Research Institute found in its latest poll.
Out of those polled, 18.6 percent said they would definitely not attend the elections, 11.2 percent had not yet decided whether to attend, and 12.4 percent had not yet decided what party to vote for, the news wire SITA wrote.
Smer would win the elections with 26 percent of those voting, which would entitle the party to five out of Slovakia's 14 EP representatives. The HZDS would follow with 19.5 percent, awarding it three seats. Two seats would be held by both the SDKÚ, which gained 12 percent, and the SMK, which polled at 10 percent. The KDH would have one deputy, scoring 9.2 percent, and the HZD-LÚ coalition would also have one deputy for its 6 percent.
Slovakia will hold EP elections on June 13 for the first time in the country's history.
