THE OPPOSITION Smer party would have won parliamentary elections if they had been held at the beginning of April, according to an opinion poll conducted by the Statistics Bureau's Institute for Public Opinion Research (UVVM).
The agency interviewed 1,278 respondents between April 1 and April 10.
Smer would have taken 32.4 percent of the vote, while the second-place opposition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia would have captured the support of 14.3 percent, the SITA news agency wrote.
The ruling Hungarian Coalition Party came in third in the poll with 10.6 percent support.
The ruling Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) of PM Mikuláš Dzurinda got 9.7 percent and the Christian Democratic Movement 9.4 percent. The non-parliamentary Slovak National Party was supported by 8.4 percent of respondents while the Free Forum led by SDKÚ defector Zuzana Martináková gained 6.4 percent.
No other party would have reached the 5 percent threshold for winning seats in parliament.
