A NEW survey carried out by the Slovak Statistics Office shows the opposition Smer party at the top of the voter preference chart, with 30.1 percent popular support, the daily SME wrote.
The poll also showed that the Slovak Communist Party (KSS) would not be represented in parliament if elections had been held at the beginning of February.
The Communists fell short of the 5 percent threshold that qualifies a party for seats in parliament. The KSS was supported by just 4.2 percent of the survey's respondents.
The opposition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia, lead by Slovakia's ex-Prime Minister Vladimír Mečiar, ranked second with 16.5 percent, followed by three ruling parties - the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union with 10.8 percent, the Christian Democratic Movement and the Hungarian Coalition Party, both enjoying a 9.7 percent voter support.
The non-parliamentary nationalist Slovak National Party ranked sixth with 7.6 percent and the fourth ruling coalition party - the liberal New Citizen's Alliance - reached 5.5 percent.
