The governing Smer party still enjoys public support, as the party would have received nearly half of all the votes had a general election been held at the turn of September and October, according to a poll whose results were unveiled by Median agency on Wednesday, November 7.
Smer would have received 45.9 percent, way ahead of the Christian Democratic Movement’s (KDH) 9.8 percent. Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) followed with 8 percent, while Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) would have been chosen by 7.9 percent of voters.
Most-Híd and Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) would also have made it into Parliament with 7.3 and 5.8 percent of the votes, respectively. The Slovak National Party (SNS), for its part, would have failed to clear the 5-percent threshold, receiving 4.9 percent.
As the agency's head Jindřich Bardon told the TASR newswire, the survey garnered views from 1,084 respondents aged 18-79 between September 17-October 14. A total of 51.4 percent of them would have gone to the polls, while 43 percent would not have voted for any party and another 5 percent were undecided as to whether they would have voted.
