The largest party in the ruling coalition, Smer, remains the most popular in Slovakia, with the support of 46.7 percent of respondents in a MEDIAN survey carried out between January 5 and March 1, 2009.
The opposition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) got the second-highest level of support, 13.3 percent, followed by the coalition Slovak National Party (SNS) in third with 11.1 percent of the votes.
The opposition Christian-Democratic Movement (KDH) received 9.5 percent and the coalition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) 9.3 percent. The opposition Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK), with 7.6 percent, was the final party to attract more than the five-percent support required to make it into parliament.
As many as 26.8 percent of the respondents said they wouldn’t have voted if elections had been held at the beginning of 2009, while 30 percent would definitely have voted and 30.7 percent would most likely have done so, Jindrich Bardon from MEDIAN told the TASR newswire.
