If a general election had taken place in March, the ruling Smer would have won with 44.4 percent, followed by the Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) and the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) with 9.4 percent each, according to a Median SK poll published on April 29.
The Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (DKÚ) came fourth at 8.7 percent, followed by Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) - 7.1 percent and Most-Hid - 5.8 percent. No other parties would pass the 5 percent threshold to reach parliament, the TASR newswire wrote.
The Slovak National Party (SNS) and Party of the Hungarian Community (SMK), both out of parliament at the moment, would have remained outside, gaining only 4.5 percent and 3.6 percent of votes, respectively. All other parties combined to have just 4.5 percent.
Compared to February's Median SK poll, Smer gained 2.3 percentage points more, SDKÚ 1.1 p.p. and SaS was up 0.3 p.p. in March. OĽaNO's preferences stayed flat, while those of KDH fell by 0.1 percentage points and those of Slovak National Party (SNS) by 0.2 p.p. Both ethnic-Hungarian parties recorded slumps - Most-Hid of 1.1 p.p. and SMK of 1 p.p.
The poll was conducted between March 3 and 30 on a sample of 1,017 respondents, the SITA newswire wrote. A total of 57.7 percent of those polled would go to the ballot-boxes, while 39 would not go and 3.3 were not decided.
