JUST 21.3 percent of Slovaks will definitely take part in the elections to the European Parliament on May 24, a survey carried out by MVK agency between April 29-May 6 on a sample of 1,067 respondents has shown.
"Another 36.1 percent of the respondents are considering taking part in the elections," said MVK agency head Pavel Haulík as quoted by the TASR newswire.
According to the poll, the biggest share of those who intend to take part in the May elections would vote for candidates of the ruling Smer party (37.6 percent). Ordinary People (OĽaNO) candidates would receive 10 percent of the vote, the Christian Democrats (KDH) 8.9 percent and Most-Híd 7.9 percent. Other parties that would be above the election threshold (of 5 percent) are a coalition of NOVA, the Conservative Democrats of Slovakia (KDS) and the Civic Conservative Party (OKS) on 6.2 percent; and the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) on 5.8 percent, TASR reported.
Based on such a distribution of votes, Smer would gain six seats in the European Parliament, while two seats each would go to OĽaNO and KDH. Most-Híd, NOVA/KDS/OKS and SDKÚ would be represented by one MEP each.
According to Haulík, the survey shows that voter-support in the European elections is quite different from that in parliamentary elections.
"Up to 35.6 percent of respondents would vote differently from their current choice for the parliamentary elections," said Haulík as quoted by TASR.
