ANDREJ Kiska continues to lead in the opinion polls as Prime Minister Robert Fico’s most likely opponent in the second round of the election.
The Focus polling agency published on March 10 the results of a poll that it conducted at the turn of February and March for the Hospodárske Noviny daily, suggesting that the difference in voter support for Fico and Kiska is decreasing, but that Kiska is still losing to Fico by 11 points.
While Fico polled at 35 percent, Kiska received the support of 24 percent of those polled, followed by Milan Kňažko and Radoslav Procházka, who both oscillate around 10 percent in voter support. Pavol Hrušovský would get 7.9 percent of the vote, according to Focus, while other candidates polled at 5 percent or less.
The same poll also shows that Fico’s lead over Kiska is shrinking, with Kiska trailing Fico by 15.8 percentage points in February, and by 11.4 points in March. Fico would win the support of 37.8 percent of the voters in the first round, while Kiska would garner 26.4 percent. Milan Kňažko would receive 11.2 percent of the vote, followed by Procházka with 8.1 percent and Hrušovský with 5.2 percent.
The MVK polling agency, in a poll conducted for the SITA newswire published on March 8, shows Fico’s support at 38 percent, followed by Kiska with 23 percent. Procházka took third place in the poll, with 11.5 percent, followed by Hrušovský with 9 percent and Kňažko with 8 percent.
