THE MAYOR of the southern Slovak town of Poltár was killed on January 16 in an armed robbery as he was on his way to buy a car. Police arrested the 20-year-old killer, Filip L, a few hours later.
The Slovak daily SME wrote on January 19 that mayor Ján Koršó, who was a member of the non-parliamentary Movement for Democracy, was killed in a parking lot in the western city of Bojnice. Referring to sources close to the police, the daily said Koršó had almost Sk1 million (€24,584) with him for a used Audi car that he had wanted to buy.
Koršó was at the parking lot with Jozef Š, a car expert who was there to advice the mayor. Jozef Š was also shot and suffered arm injuries.
