The highest average nominal monthly wage in January 2009 was reported in the sector of postal services, information and communications, at €1.204.33. Data from the Slovak Statistics Office showed the following average wages by sector: industry - €713.71, transport - €707.25, the wholesale sector - €706.87, sales and repairs of motor vehicles - €675.67, accommodations - €548.90, construction - €529.22, retail businesses - €514.80, and restaurants and pubs - €341.05, as reported by the SITA newswire.
The average nominal monthly wage had increased from January 2008 to January 2009 by 16 percent in the accommodation sector; by 8.8 percent in postal services, information and communications; by 6.3 percent in retail businesses; and by 6.1 percent in transport. The sector of restaurants and pubs saw a year-on-year increase in the nominal monthly wage of 5.7 percent, the construction sector of 3.7 percent, industry of 3.6 percent, the wholesale sector of 3.5 percent, and car sales and repairs of 3.1 percent.
The real wage of workers in the accommodation sector posted year-on-year growth of 11.9 percent; in postal services, information and communications it was 4.9 percent, in retail 2.5 percent, in transport 2.3 percent, and in restaurants and pubs 1.9 percent. Real wages fell in car sales and repairs by 0.6 percent, in the wholesale sector by 0.2 percent and in industry by 0.1 percent. It remained unchanged in the construction sector. (SITA)
