Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Robert Fico's government on Thursday, July 8 and an hour later appointed Iveta Radičová the new prime minister, the TASR newswire wrote.
The entire new cabinet – minus an expected environment minister appointment which will take place once the ministry is re-established – is expected to be appointed on Friday.
Following short speeches which featured a brief farewell ceremony and an address by Fico touching on the excellent relationship he has enjoyed with the president, Radičová took the following oath of office: "I pledge allegiance to the Slovak Republic. I will honestly perform my duties for the sake of citizens. I will uphold the constitution and other laws and work to their implementation in life."
