IN A TELEVISED speech yesterday, President Ivan Gašparovič called on Slovaks to take part in tomorrow's parliamentary elections.
In a short address broadcast by the private TV Markíza and the all-news TA3 channels, Gašparovič said he had been upset by recent public opinion polls suggesting that tomorrow's ballot would attract the lowest voter turnout since the first democratic elections in the country in 1990. The president said that every vote would count in the elections, the SME daily wrote.
He added that even voters who are disillusioned and unhappy with politics should go to the polls.
"If you want to express your civic discontent with politicians, you can do it through a ballot box as well," the president said.
