PRESIDENT Ivan Gašparovič appointed Alojz Meszáros as the new Slovak ambassador to Sweden on April 20.

Meszáros committed himself to supporting the efforts of small and medium-sized businesses in finding new partners in Sweden. He also promised to help Slovak universities and scientists to develop contacts with their Swedish counterparts, the TASR news agency wrote.

Meszáros is a professor at the Chemistry Faculty of the Slovak Technical University. In the past, as a member of the ethnic-Hungarian SMK party, he won a seat in the Bratislava regional parliament, and later worked as deputy mayor of the Bratislava borough of Podunajské Biskupice.
