President Zuzana Čaputová has challenged the 50-day moratorium on polls at the Constitutional Court.
She also asks the court to halt the effectiveness of the law, the Denník N daily reported. The law is set to become effective as of January and should apply to the upcoming parliamentary election. This means that poll results can no longer be published after January 10.
“I’m convinced that the amendment is at odds with several rights guaranteed by the Constitution,” she said back in November, as quoted by Denník N.

The parliament first passed the amendment prolonging the moratorium from 14 days before the election day to 50 days in late October. Čaputová vetoed it, thus joining the critical voices coming from much of the Slovak public and opposition parties, as well as PM Peter Pellegrini and Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák.
