Slovakia plans to double its troops in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan in the future, said the Slovak president, who is also the chief commander of the Armed Forces of Slovakia, at a briefing on December 15, the SITA newswire reported.
“We’ve known that for a while now,” he said as quoted by TASR. “I think we have already informed the [NATO] General Secretary when he was visiting.”
He said that in reaction to the question whether he learned the exact number of troops to be sent to Afghanistan at his meeting with the defence minister that “we cannot tell the exact figure, but it’s about double”. Currently Slovakia has 262 soldiers in Afghanistan. SITA
