SLOVAK President Ivan Gašparovič does not regard the Slovak Constitutional Court's resolution to delay legitimization of parliament's ratification of the EU Constitution, as binding.
"When signing a ratification document, the president will decide by himself," Gasparovic's spokesman Marek Trubač told the TASR news wire.
Gašparovič argues against the Court's resolution, saying that Slovakia's Constitution gives a president the power to ratify international agreements.
"That's why the Court cannot announce - in giving reasons for its resolution, or in its statement - what the postponement means in relation to the President's power to ratify international agreements," Trubač said.
The Court will not comment on the president's decisions and actions, according to Constitutional Court Chairman Ján Mazák, in his response to the president's stance. The correspondence was presented to the TASR news wire by Mazák's advisor for media relations, Štefan Németh.
